This letter consisted of his advice on the topic of happiness.  As previously mentioned, the text is written in the form of an open letter. More specifically, the purpose of this piece is to give advice to its audience. Who, in this case, is a stranger.   1a) Taylor Drott 423 Spinnaker Drive Marco Island, 34145 4/19/2022 President Emmaneul Macron 748 Royalty Lane Paris, 25845 Dear President Macron, I write to you today in concern of the Amazon rainforest. Over the past three weeks the rainforest has been fled with horrific forest fires. These fires pose a threat to our precious rainforest, and there has been a lack of effort to raise awareness towards this threat. A change needs to be made. As you may recall, a fire stumbled through the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris earlier this year. Within just three minutes of the first flame donations were made. In it, Raina and her mother are discussing the countryside and Raina is discovering more about her surrounding environment. With Raina being five years old, she is a part of the post-telegraphic stage. Raina’s developmental signs also fall under this category. Raina shows that she is able to maintain a conversation with her mother using more than one simple idea. Along with language development, Raina shows additional signs of cognitive and social development. This all shows that Raina is more pragmatic in every situation she is in.       Initially, Raina displays great turn-taking skills with her mother. This can be difficult for children, as they are forced to listen while the other speaks. Raina did indeed do this, until the end of the conversation. Overlapping actually occurred a few times by both Raina and her mother. Sometimes overlapping can be a sign of distress or ...

Paper 3 Question 1

Text A is formatted as a letter from an uncle to his nephew. It was written in 1832, which makes the letter a part of the later modern English era. The late modern English era ranges from 1800 to present day. Because of how broad this time period is, there are obvious changes within it. The letter was written very early on in this era, so comparing it and recognizing the differences between then and present day is necessary.       Text A had various semantic changes present. Technology has been the root of many forms of language change. Over time technology and hydraulics have forced the English language to adapt with it. In Text A the word “venture” is used. This word fits the time period of the early 1800’s very well, as it holds a lot of formality. These words aren't used in the present day because of Aitchison’s descriptive approach. This approach stated that there is no fixed standard in English. The English language evolves as its users do. ...
